How to set a song as your alarm
Wake up to a song you actually like. Make a short clip of it, then pick it as your alarm sound.
Short answer: make a clip of the song with the Ringtone Maker and add it to your phone like a ringtone. Then iPhone: Clock → Alarms → the alarm → Sound. Android: Clock → the alarm → Alarm sound → add your file.
Step 1: Make the alarm sound
- Open the Ringtone Maker and pick the song.
- Select a part that starts gently. Leave Fade in on so it doesn't jolt you awake.
- Download it: M4R for iPhone, MP3 for Android.
iPhone
- Add the sound to your iPhone first: on iOS 26, open it in Files → Share → Use as Ringtone (see the iPhone guide for older versions).
- Open Clock → Alarms and tap the alarm (or + for a new one).
- Tap Sound. Your custom sound is listed at the top of the ringtones. Pick it and tap Save.
Want to change it back to your old ringtone afterwards? Setting the sound as your ringtone is not required: it only has to be in the list.
Android
- Open the Clock app and tap the alarm.
- Tap the alarm sound (a bell icon, or Alarm sound on Samsung).
- Choose Your sounds → Add new, or tap + on Samsung, and pick the file from Downloads.
Tips for a better alarm
Pick a calm part, maybe a slowed + reverb version, and keep it 20 to 30 seconds; it loops until you stop it. If you sleep deeply, raise Volume in Effects before downloading.
Questions and answers
Can I use any song as an alarm on iPhone?
Yes, as long as you have the song as a file. Streaming songs are protected, so make the clip from a file you own.
Will the alarm sound change my ringtone?
No. Adding the sound puts it in the list; you choose separately what the ringtone and each alarm use.
