How to save a WhatsApp voice message as MP3
WhatsApp voice notes are .opus files that most players can't open. Here's how to get one out of the chat and turn it into an MP3.
1. Get the voice note out of WhatsApp
iPhone
- Open the chat and long-press the voice message → Forward.
- Tap the Share button in the bottom right (not the arrow to forward to a chat).
- Choose Save to Files and save it, for example in Downloads.
Android
- Long-press the voice message, then tap the Share icon at the top.
- Choose Files, Drive or another place to save it.
- Or find all your voice notes in the Files app under Android → media → com.whatsapp → WhatsApp → Media → WhatsApp Voice Notes.
2. Convert it to MP3
- Open WhatsApp Audio to MP3 and choose the voice note.
- Press Convert, then Download. 128 kbps is plenty for speech.
Make it clearer
Voice notes recorded outside are often noisy. Open the MP3 in the AI Noise Remover to take out wind and traffic and even out the volume. Telegram voice messages (.ogg) work the same way.
Questions and answers
Why can't I play a WhatsApp voice note on my computer?
WhatsApp saves them as .opus files, which many players don't support. Converting to MP3 fixes that.
Is my voice message uploaded?
No. The conversion runs on your own phone or computer, so the message never leaves your device.
Can I convert several voice notes into one file?
Yes. Convert them, then put them together with the Audio Joiner.
