How to clean up a voice memo
Trim it, remove background noise and long pauses, make it louder, and save it as an MP3 you can share.
1. Get the recording onto your phone's files
- iPhone Voice Memos: tap the memo, then Share → Save to Files.
- Android recorder: recordings are usually already in Files → Recordings.
- WhatsApp voice note: long-press it → Share or Export → Save to Files.
2. Open it in the noise remover
Go to the AI Noise Remover and open the file. AI noise removal, Auto loudness and Remove silences are already switched on.
3. Trim the start and end
Drag the handles on the waveform so the selection starts just before the first word and ends just after the last one. Press Play to check.
4. Listen before saving
Press Preview with effects. If the voice sounds thin, lower the Treble slider a little. If it's still too quiet, raise Volume.
5. Save it
Choose MP3 and 128 kbps (plenty for speech), press Convert, then Download.
Recording tips for next time
- Hold the phone about a hand's width from your mouth, slightly to the side.
- Record in a room with soft things like curtains or a sofa. Bare rooms echo.
- Turn off fans and close the window if you can. Noise removal helps, but less noise is always better.
Questions and answers
Will AI noise removal work on music?
It is made for voices. On music it can remove instruments, so for songs use Reduce hiss instead.
Is my recording uploaded?
